Seán O’Sullivan, M.D.
If there’s one word that could easily describe Dr. Seán O’Sullivan, it’s “dynamic.”
His friendly and magnetic personality, charisma, lively character, worldly experiences and abounding appreciation for stories—whether sharing them or creating them—makes him as much of an endearing individual as it does a proficient, skilled and compassionate retinal surgeon.
Dr. O’Sullivan’s own story begins along the warm waters of the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Pascagoula. Here, he dreamed of colorful lands and distant cultures—and soon after graduating from Mississippi State as a dual major in Biomedical and Civil Engineering—made those dreams come true by joining the Peace Corps to help communities in Thailand preserve their resources and protect their wildlife.
Upon his return home, Dr. O’Sullivan pursued his medical degree, internship and residency from The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s here that he fell in love with ophthalmology and, specifically, the intricacies and biology of the retina. Following his residency, he later completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Louisiana State.
Core to Dr. O’Sullivan’s beliefs are charity, compassion and research. Dr. O’Sullivan takes great pride in giving back to his community, and is actively involved in The Studies of Ocular Complications of AIDS (SOCA) and performs screenings to underserved populations including the homeless and those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Dr. O’Sullivan finds particular enjoyment at improving quality of life for those suffering from vision loss and believes whole-heartedly in the idea of treating the person, and not the disease.
In his free time, Dr. O’Sullivan spends time with his wife, Jennifer and their three sons, Finnbarr, Sebastian and Patrick in their home in New Orleans.
